I ordered this jacket to wear during early spring and late fall in Wisconsin. The temperature can dip to lower 30s with gusty winds. After the long winter, I am eager to get out of my heavy winter jacket, and this is exactly what I am looking for. With just a T-shirt underlayer, this jacket keeps me warm. I also wear it indoor and don't feel overheated. I have a small frame and most jackets are too bulky at the shoulder region. The XS fits me very well at chest and shoulder area - enough room to move around without looking like a football player. I try to order one for my husband, but it has been sold out, which speaks to its popularity. We will order early next fall to get the best selection in color and size.
I have purchased several fleece jackets over the past few years and this one is by far my favorite. It's great as a sweater or as a layer under a shell. I wore it to work this morning under an unlined nylon jacket and it's -48 degrees Celcius but I wasn't cold. It washes well and seems to be holding up to my constant wearing. My only suggestion to LL Bean is that the small mesh chest pocket tends to flip out so you can see it when you wear the jacket unzipped. All it would take to fix this is a small stitch or two to hold it in place. Nonetheless I love it and have considered ordering one in another color.
Though the quality and style are great on this jacket, the stand-up collar hits my face, especially when I sit down. I tried to bend the collar to soften it and break it in, but it was still causing me trouble.
This is an exceptional quality product. It keeps me really toasty during brisk walks, even in weather below freezing. It breathes really well so I stay very comfortable as I warm up. I used it snowshoeing also, and it was perfect! A great jacket for playing outdoors!
