This is an okay jacket, but if you don't try it on first you may be disappointed. I was. The sleeves don't have any elastic at the cuff, they are open to drafts. A knitted cuff inside or elastic would definitely make a warmer sleeve. The pockets have a mesh inside that may drain water very well, but doesn't lend itself to warming your hands on a cold day. The jacket fits me well in the arms and shoulders, but the body is too big in the waist. I have to pull in the drawstring at the waist which leaves the jacket looking untailored. I am tall and thin, so I appreciate the tall sizing, but the jacket seems to be tailored around a couch potato because of the waist.
I had a LL bean 300 Wind pro fleece that went with my Mtn. Guide Parka, and I lost it. I found this to replace my lost flleece. It was an excellent replacement. Stopped the winds at the top of Mt. Rainer while still breathing very well. A must have match for the parka.
My husband typically wears size Medium in men's clothing from L.L. Bean, so when I purchased this jacket for him I ordered it in size Medium. However, when he tried it on he found it to be too snug across the back and shoulders, and the length too short. The size Large worked well for him, however, and he's very pleased with the jacket. Bottom line: A very nice jacket that runs a bit small.
Lightweight and comfortable but very warm. I wish it weren't quite so fitted but I understand it is designed to go under the Ascent jacket. I'll use it under my Gore-Tex raincoat and won't need another jacket. The two colors (red) don't quite go together.
