I bought this coat specifically for a trip to England. It was so versatile it worked brilliantly for all the varieties of weather I encountered ... the liner for brisk walks and an afternoon at a "football" game, the shell for a warmer rainy afternoon (wonderful water repellency!), both together for a blustery cold day of traveling and tramping about. It was SO successful, I took it to the mountains of W PA for a week's vacation. Again it worked in ALL the weather changes. It looks GREAT. Many compliments. One negative: when both units are used together it is difficult to zip the coat shut. Takes a little practice and then it is not a problem. I had no trouble with the fit and loved the cut of the coat. It is fitted, not loose and bulky.
I like this coat, so far, and finding it to be versatile. I 've worn both pieces separately - they suited their purpose and looked fairly attractive. I wore the liner as a jacket on a recent trip to the chilly White Mountains and was very comfortable. Have worn the shell on a few, cool , windy days and was comfortable. I am waiting for some chilly, snowy/rainy/windy days to wear them both together. The sizing does run smaller - I bougt a large and I usually wear a 14-16. Although the upper body is fine, my middle could use a bit more room, but perhaps this will be an addtionnal incentive for me to reduce it!
Being used to normal LL Bean standards what a disappointment this was. Bought my normal size S but it was too tight across the chest and in the sleeves. Returned for a size M, this was too tight also. Do not dare return again for a size L, which will be too large elsewhere. In short, proportions are wrong and the 'slightly fitted' description is an understatement. Moreover, the coat is difficult to zip, so don't be in a hurry when you want to wear it.
